Christian Lacroix Fashion Show
We don't shoot that many fashion runaway gigs but the chronicle asked us to cover Christian Lacroix's new line up last Friday. Although it should be like shooting fish in a barrel, with the constant light changes, i found myself challenged to capture every dress that came down the runaway. I tend to shoot in Manual mode for most of my indoor work but i found that this mode burnt me few times during this shoot!

Juliana Jade

This past weekend I was covering the USA Figure and Bodybuilding Championships. I had met Juliana in Seattle earlier in the year and she was competing at the show so we set up a shoot. She's a great model and although it was ridiculously hot outside, we got some nice shots in. This was just laying on a rare patch of grass while the 2nd shot was in a fake rock cave - how very Vegas!

The first shot...

Oftentimes I find that the very first shot taken turns out quite interesting. The subjects are usually relaxed in the sense that it's not an 'official' shot but more to get composition, lighting, etc. In this case, I was shooting the overall champion of the 2006 Ironman figure championships, Halcyon Duarte, the morning after the competition and we finally got some sun and some warmth. She was just getting ready when I snapped this.

Some of my photography will probably appear on her website at some point. Hopefully, she will sell a lot of jewelery and we can have even more fun next time.

another sneak peek of the journey shoot...

i like this one because you can actually see one of the stylists, Deb, making sure Sydney and Jessica are in a symmetrical pose. some things aren't as easy as they seem...

alaya model 2

Since we all have to begin somewhere, it was interesting working with less experience models. given my tendency towards a photojournalist approach, it was quite different to constantly direct or confirm the model's expression. regardless, there is still that decisive moment that i see when i am working in this formal context.

alaya fashion model 1

I am finally beginning to take advantage of our studio space with some test work with a new fashion designer, alaya. Her website isn't up yet but it should be an interesting fusion of indian and modern references. We're going to be putting up our fashion work over the next couple of quarters so expect more studio work from me
