a good merger?

a scanner darkly keanu.jpg
I'm psyched as I just found a trailer for "A Scanner Darkly" which is based on a Philip K. Dick story and adapted by Richard Linklater, one of my favorite directors. It's rotoscoped much like Waking Life, one of my favorite flicks, was and looks pretty hot.

The more you look...

Julia and Jay's wedding photography
It's weird how the more you look at things, how they seem to change and what first appealed to you becomes less interesting and how things that were at first less interesting become more so.

It's kind of like the hooky songs that you first like on an album and how the longer you own the CD you start liking other songs more. I guess it's the whole acquired taste type of thing.

Anyhow, from the wedding this past weekend, this image has really got my attention. I think it's because it's more abstract that I like it since you see so many 'traditional' and 'nice' shots, so anything different and unusual has more appeal...

Perfect Kiss / New Order / lyrics
I stood there beside myself,
Thinking hard about the weather
Then came by a friend of mine
Suggested we go out together
Then I knew it from the start:
This friend of mine would fall apart
Pretending not to see his guilt,
I said "let's go out and have some fun"
I know, you know, you believe in a land of love
I know, you know, we believe in a land of love

I have always thought about
Staying here and going out
Tonight I should have stayed at home,
Playing with my pleasure zone
He has always been so strange,
I'd often thought he was deranged
Pretending not to see his gun,
I said "let's go out and have some fun"
I know, you know, we believe in a land of love
I know, you know, we believe in a land of love

When you are alone at night
You search yourself for all the things
That you believe are right
If you give it all away
You throw away your only chance to be here today
Then a fight breaks out on your street
You lose another broken heart in a land of meat
My friend, he took his final breath
Now I know the perfect kiss is the kiss of death

X9

x9 Wow, suddenly X9 is in my life. I think I should be a Bokononist. It's that random factor where something just starts showing up a lot in your life. Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle is the book I'm enjoying right now. I defintely enjoy his writing and I guess he would be one of my favorite American writers. When I was little I thought that song was Secret Asian Man (which was me).

Halcyon Duarte

Halcyon Duarte - Ironman 2006 overall figure champion
Here's Halcyon Duarte who has to have one of the coolest names in physique sports. She won the overall at the 2006 Ironman figure championships and was a recent cover model on Muscle and Fitness Hers. If you can't tell, she's known for her abs which she's checking out in this shot.

V-Day

My friend forwarded this site to me and since I'm working late on Valentine's Day, I figured I'd try out the survey and it turns out I'm a pool boy!

Ear Popping

James Kochalka
I read this and it seemed like such a perfect description of the feeling of having your ears pop from flying...

Orson Restaurant space

Orson Restaurant space
Tonight I shot a private birthday party at a new restaurant space that will most likely be open in Oct 2006 and part of the evening included an Elvis Costello cover where I snapped this photo of the drummer.

Another flick!

Iron Giant - Brad Bird
I first saw a Brad Bird flick when I saw the Incredibles, but I really liked his style and decided finally to check out Iron Giant. Definitely has his signature on it and it's also quite a nice film. There's some really neat animation sequences as well as some funny stuff in the extras (see the storyboard guy one). Wish I had seen this in the theather, but at least we have the projector!

Mad Cow Girl

With the SF Independent Film Festival in town, I've tried to force myself to see more of the flicks since last year I managed to miss everything completely.

The first film I saw was Initial D which was decent for what I had expected. Nothing too intense but a light fun ride overall. The race scenes did look pretty realistic to someone who doesn't know crap about driving and racing.

The 2nd flick was Mad Cowgirl. It was the World Premiere so director Gregory Hatanaka and his crew were present. I didn't know too much about the guy or the film, but apparently his film from 2005 was the worst rated film of the festival.

Well, once it began, I realized the lead character is pretty hot. Played by Sarah Lassez, Therese is quite an enigmatic character. I don't know what to say without spoiling any of it, but it's a crazy ride that goes all over the place, but because of that kinetic schizophrenia it makes it a lot of fun.

The last flick I'll see I just realized the website for it is is kanashibari.org which is totally bizarre since that's the word from a blog post of mine in 2003 that I have only heard of that one time.

HARD-Fi @ Popscene

HARD-Fi and Popscene, San Francisco, CA
My friend Julie wanted to check out HARD-Fi at Popscene tonight and since I was shooting at the SFMOMA earlier, I decided it's be a good nightcap to that.

Since I had my gear with me I saw a few other photogs shooting and decided to whip out the gear towards the end of the set. Not sure what this guy's name is but he had some pretty intense eyes.
